Intraoral Cameras

In the past, patients could only use their imaginations to picture what their dentist was talking about. Now we can show you exactly what the problem is so that you understand perfectly what is going on and what needs to be done to preserve your smile. An intraoral camera is a small, wand-like device that we can use to examine your mouth from a variety of angles; the images are projected onto a monitor so that you can see cavities and other forms of dental damage for yourself.

3D Cone Beam Imaging

Part of the reason that modern implant surgery has such a high success rate is that we’re able to use 3D cone beam imaging to plan the procedure while taking all of the various structures inside the mouth into account. The scanner will produce a 3D model of your teeth, jawbone, nerve pathways, and soft tissues that will tell Dr. Kung exactly where the implants need to go to support new teeth while avoiding unnecessary dental damage.

All-Digital X-Rays

Taking an X-ray is an essential first step in diagnosing or screening a variety of oral health issues. Traditional film X-rays were introduced in the early 1900s, but in modern times digital technology has changed the way these images are taken. Far less radiation is produced, and the image itself can be developed in just a few minutes without having to use a dark room filled with harmful chemicals. It’s also easier to resize digital images in order to examine hard-to-see issues.

Soft-Tissue Laser Dentistry

When you’re suffering from gum disease, some of the damaged tissue may need to be removed in order to prevent the damage from spreading any further. A soft-tissue laser offers improved precision compared to regular metal dental instruments, meaning it’s much easier to only remove the already damaged tissue while leaving the healthy areas intact. Laser dentistry also generally results in faster healing times and less bleeding. We can incorporate lasers into certain other treatments as well.

Air Abrasion

Air abrasion (also called microabrasion) is a state-of-the-way our dental team removes tooth decay from patients’ smiles. Instead of a traditional drill, imagine us using a miniature sandblaster that gently blows away the decayed materials without unpleasant friction or heat. This is how air abrasion works! The compressed air is sprayed in a focused stream, and the sand-like particles in the stream will wear away the harmful portions of each tooth. In some cases, we can even use air abrasion to remove noticeable staining from the tooth enamel.

VELscope

Many people believe that oral cancer only affects those who drink and smoke heavily, but it’s true that 25% of diagnosed cases occur in patients with no known risk factors. Thankfully, Dr. Kung can help identify oral cancer in its earliest stages, and VELscope technology plays an important role in that process. This tool uses FV (Fluorescence Visualization) to clearly reveal which portions of soft tissue are healthy and which may be cancerous/precancerous. The screening only takes minutes, and it may save your life.

Telescopic Loupes

Telescopic loupes are special eyeglasses that Dr. Kung may wear to enhance his vision during the treatment process. They look like little telescopes, and they magnify his vision anywhere from 1.5x to 6x its normal capability! This makes it much easier to see even the tiniest cracks and crevices of the smile, as well as tell-tale symptoms of developing gingivitis (the beginning stage of periodontal disease) and tooth decay.
